Back on Tuesday, we took at look at how our potential starting pitchers fared after the first few spring games, I thought we'd also look at how our infielders at doing.
Adam Lind | Adam has played in 5 games, he's 4 for 14, 1 double, 1 home run, 4 strikeouts. Hitting .286/.286/.571. I'm not worried about the 0 walks, I want guys swinging early in the spring to get their timing down. The home run was a massive shot, really long. He's looked good at the plate. He has to shave that ugly beard.
Edwin has played 5 games, 14 at bats, 5 hits, 2 doubles, 1 home run, 1 walk, 5 strikeouts. .357/.400/.714. I always thought that Edwin needed longer than most to get his timing down, but he's been good right from the start, this year. His wrist doesn't seem to be bothering him in the least.
Ryan's played in 4 games, 12 at bats, 3 singles, 1 walk, 2 strikeouts. .250/.308/.250. He had two hits in his last game. He hasn't made a lot of hard contact. We'll see if Seitzer is the great mentor for him over the next few weeks. On defense, he's looked good.
Maicer has played in 5 games, 10 at bats, 1 single, 1 walk, 0 strikeouts. .100/.182/.100. Again a lot of soft contact. On defense, he made an error on a relay throw home. You know, I'm not a fan. He's going to have to show us quickly that he has remembered how to play the game, if he wants to ease our minds. I don't know that he can.
Munenori has played in 7 games, has 7 at bats, 2 singles, 1 walk, 1 k, 1 steal. .286/.375/.286. He made an error too. It is too bad for him that both he and Goins bat left-handed, or it would be easy to take him over Izturis, as it is, I think he'll have to wait for an injury before we see him in Toronto.
Chris Getz | Chris played in 5 games, 13 at bats, 5 hits, 1 double, 1 triple, 1 k, 2 caught stealing. .385/.385/.615. Even his outs have been hard hit balls. He ought to stop trying to steal. He did make the one error (and it was badly timed) but I thought the the first baseman should have made the dig on the throw. Again, if he wasn't a lefty batter, I'd like him over Maicer as the utility infielder. If he continues to hit like he has, he might put himself in a spot that he could get called up if there is an injury.
Jose has played 5 games, 15 at bats, 3 hits, 1 doubles, 1 k, 1 caught stealing. .200/.200/.267. He hasn't looked good at the plate, but he has doesn't have to look good this early. He's made one error. I don't think I'm ever going to be a fan of his range at short.
Jonathan's played in 3 games, 2 at bats, no hits, 2 walks. .000/.400/.000. I thought he would get more of a look to show he could be a utility infielder if there was an injury, but they haven't given him much time out there. I guess they know what they have in him.
Brett missed a couple of days with some soreness, I'm sure every player will miss a day or two with soreness at some point in camp. He has played 5 games, 13 at bats, 5 hits, 2 doubles, 1 k. .385/.385/.538. All Seiter jokes aside, I do think that Brett could be the guy most helped by our new hitting coach. I think the hit to all fields approach is the right one for Lawrie. Or at least the all out pull approach that Murphy and Cito sold might not have been the best method for Brett. Or maybe I'm just being hopeful that this is his year and I'll for any small vague sign that it is coming true.
Andy Burns | Andy played in 4 games, 4 at bats, 2 hits, 1 k. .500/.500/.500. This year he's just there to fill in in the late innings of games.
Dan's played in 7 games, has 10 at bats, 3 hits, 2 home runs, 1 k. .300/.300/.900. Dan is going to want to show he could be a reasonable injury replacement.
Steve has played in 7 games, 13 at bats, 3 hits, 2 k. ..231/.286/.231.
Jared has played in 6 games, 11 at bats, 2 hits, 1 walk, 4 k. .182/.250/.182.
Played in 4 games, 2 at bats, 0 hits. |
