The Toronto Blue Jays activated left-hander J.A. Happ from the 60-day disabled list Monday night with the expectation that the southpaw will take the hill for them on Wednesday against the Mariners, reports Mike Wilner of Sportsnet.ca.

A dozen Biogenesis suspensions, but how many of them will actually change anything that matters in 2013?Happ, 30, has been sidelined since May 7, when he took a line drive to the side of the head off the bat of Rays center fielder Desmond Jennings. Along with an ear laceration and a large head contusion, the southpaw suffered a small fracture behind his left ear and also managed to sprain his right knee as he fell to the ground.
The Blue Jays initially hoped that Happ would be able to return around the All-Star break, but lingering soreness in his right knee set things back by about a month. The left-hander finally started a rehab assignment in mid-July and ultimately made five starts at three minor-league affiliates in a three-week span.
The left-hander threw only 21⅓ innings over his handful of rehab appearances, so he may not be ready to pitch deep into games, but his 4.23 earned-run average and 2.5 strikeout-to-walk ratio over that time seem to indicate he's at least ready to get back on the hill.
Acquired in the nine-player trade with the Astros late last season, Happ signed to a two-year, $8.9 million extension with the Blue Jays this spring. The extension also includes a team option for the 2015 season.
