Over the past 2 weeks the Blue Jays are 8-4, so you might expect a lot of up arrows but there are a few of our guys that weren't hitting over the past 2 weeks, fortunately others were amazing.. The batters hit .260/.331/.418 and averaged 4.5 runs per game.

Dioner Navarro | Dioner played in 11 of the 12 games, starting 9 of them. He hit .260/.289/.294 with 1 home runs, 2 RBI, 4 walks and 11 strikeouts. He hasn't hit much at all since April. I do wonder if a couple of weeks off wouldn't help him out. He is painfully slow. When they pinch run Erik Kratz for you, you know you are slow.
Edwin started 11 of the games. He hit .306/.457/.694 with 2 doubles, 4 home runs, 11 RBI, 10 walks and 6 strikeouts. He was AL Player of the Month in May, and he's hitting at least as good, so far, in June.
Juan played in 12 games, starting 10. He hit .171/.194/.371 with 4 doubles, 1 home run, 6 RBI, 0 walks and 12 strikeouts. He's been terrible at the plate for a month now. I wondered how long it would be until teams stopped throwing him fastballs, we now know the answer. Personally, I think it is time to send him back to Buffalo. I wonder how long it will take the Jays to notice he's stopped hitting. His defense at third is.....ok if he is hitting. He has no range but a strong arm. Fangraphs has him at a -6.2/150 this season (small sample size), which matches what I see. To me, he's got to hit to stay in the lineup and he hasn't hit in more than a month now.
Jose started all 12 games. He hit .327/.364/.423, with 1 triple, 1 home run, 3 RBI, 3 steals, 3 walks and 8 strikeouts. He is fun to watch when he's hitting like this. He did have the terribly timed error and his range leaves lots to be desired, but he is an offensive force.
Brett started all 12 games. He hit .267/.306/.467 with 3 home runs, 8 RBI, 2 walks and 8 strikeouts. Not bad but I'd like better.
Melky started all 12 games. Hit .235/.264/.392 with 2 doubles, 2 homers, 4 RBI, 1 walk and 7 strikeouts. If there is a piece of advise you could give a baseball player, it is 'always start the season hot'. If you do, it takes forever for people to notice you've cooled down. Melky and Juan are prime examples. He's been much better over his last 6 games, so, hopefully, he's turning things around again.
Starting to rehab. | ||
Jose Bautista | Jose started all 12 games. Hit .357/.471/.643 with 3 doubles, 3 home runs, 8 RBI, 1 steal, 8 walks and 5 strikeouts. He's been consistently great all season, but the past two weeks have been even better. Add in the 2 9-3 put outs and there is very little to complain about. It's funny, last year we were losing and all the stories were about how Jose was a terrible leader. This year we are winning and he's suddenly a great leader. Funny how that works.
Adam played all 12 games, starting 10. Hit .306/.405/.417 with 4 doubles, 5 RBI, 6 walks and 5 strikeouts. Gibby doesn't get enough credit for being smart enough to platoon Adam.
Played in 4 games, starting 3. Hit .000/.125/.000. Again guys, get off to a hot start and no one will notice when you stop hitting. Course this is only 7 at bats.
Steve played in 11 games, starting just 2. Hit .182/.250/.182 with 1 RBI, 1 walk and 6 strikeouts. Again a really small sample, 11 at bats, but when you are a role player, that's what you get, do something with them. Had the bad not-an-error-because-baseball-rules-are-stupid play that cost us big last night.
Played in 10 games, starting 2. Hit .111/.100/.111 with 1 hit (but a big hit), 2 RBI, 0 walks and 4 strikeouts. Again a small sample, 9 at bats. He's today's example of 'if you are going to dive to make a catch, you better make the catch'.
Anthony played in all 12 games, starting 10. .194/.256/.250 with 1 triple, 1 RBI, 1 steal. 1 caught, 3 walks and 11 strikeouts. Once again, if you get called up, make sure to get all to a fast start with the bat. Couldn't get the bunt down last night, that could have cost us.
Played in 6 games, started 3. Hit .400/455/.400 with 2 RBI, 1 walk, 0 strikeouts. Again a small sample size, 10 at bats. I like him behind the plate. Filed under 'things you think you'll never hear at a baseball game: "Now pinch running, Erik Kratz", but he did the job. |
